Apprenticeship Employer Incentives

New Apprenticeship Incentives

The Government has introduced new financial support to help employers hire new apprentices or apprentices who have been made redundant.

An incentive payment for hiring a new apprentice is different to the apprenticeship levy, and you can spend it on anything to support your organisation’s costs. For example, you could spend it on equipment, uniforms, towards the apprentice's salary or travel costs. You don’t need to pay it back.

New Apprentices

Employers who hire apprentices between 1st April and 30th September 2021 with a payment of £3,000, regardless of their age.

The payment is in addition to the existing £1,000 you’ll already get for taking on an apprentice who is:
- aged 16 to 18 years old
- under 25 and has an education, health and care plan or has been in the care of their local authority.

Redundant Apprentices

With some apprentices facing redundancy due to impact of the coronavirus, the Government has launched the Redundancy Support Service.

This service gives apprentices advice and helps them to find a new opportunity. For employers who hire these experienced apprentices who already have relevant skills and experience, they are likely to see a quick return on investment.

You can get the incentive payment when you hire an apprentice who’s been made redundant as long as they’re new to your organisation.
